Semos is a UK-based language consultancy. Our aim is to deliver integrated language services of an exceptionally high standard.

 

What are integrated language services?

 

Our work is varied. You might translate a menu from Czech into English for a small restaurant in Brno. Or edit an English-language guide to an art exhibition in Rome.  Or proofread an English translation of a Catalan short story. Or check the English language version of a Russian political website for grammatical errors and lexical or idiomatic infelicities. We can do a lot. But everything we do is governed by a simple principle: quality. We would never return anything that we felt could be improved upon.

 

Whom do we want?

 

We want linguists. A linguist is someone who knows what language is, what it means and how it works. Writers, editors, proofreaders and translators are all linguists. A linguist does not, necessarily, need to be a speaker or student of foreign languages. Most jobs comprise several discreet stages; a Polish commentary on economic reconstruction in Bulgaria might be translated by a native Pole fluent in English, edited by a UK Economics graduate, and proofread by an English-language student.

 

You should also:

 

-         Be an appropriately qualified professional or academic OR post-graduate student OR an under-graduate at an elite university

-         Have, or be expected to achieve, a 2:1 degree or higher

-         Be able to write fluently and accurately in English and or your native language
